Birth Doula

“A birth doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth” (DONA International).

A Doula is not a medical staff member or performs medical tasks. I do not replace the partner or midwife. I do not speak on behalf of the family.

So what does she do?

As a traditional and holistic Birth Doula, I help to empower the mother and give her a voice by providing information for the family on various choices during labor and birth that they may discuss with their provider. These are discussed in length during our first prenatal visit. I support the mother and the partner through birth by providing relaxation and comfort techniques. These we practice during our second prenatal visit together. During the rest of your pregnancy, I give suggestions and resources for various questions that may come up. I am there to meet the needs of the family so that they may have a beautiful and positive birth. This means I can step in and be the coach or step back and guide the partner in coaching. Maybe a combination of both!

At this time, I am only serving families giving birth at Our Birth Center, The Birth Center of New Jersey, or in their home in Warren, Sussex, Hunterdon, Morris, and Passaic Counties.

During birth, I would be available via text message or phone call to give suggestions for comfort positions, offer encouragement, and provide resources.
