Birth Doula

“A birth doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth” (DONA International).

A Doula is not a medical staff member or performs medical tasks. She does not replace the partner or midwife. She does not advocate for the mother.

So what does she do?

As a Birth Doula, I help to empower the mother and give her a voice by providing information for the family on various choices during labor and birth that they may discuss with their provider. I support the mother and the partner through medicated and unmedicated labor, vaginal birth, or a Cesarean birth by providing relaxation and comfort techniques. I am there to meet the needs of the family so that they may have a beautiful and positive birth. This means I can step in and be the coach or step back and guide the partner in coaching. Maybe a combination of both!

Due to certain restrictions and policies at hospitals, I am only accepting a limited number of families looking for a birth center or home birth. If you are a family I have previously served and planning on having a hospital birth, let’s chat about your options! If you are planning a home birth, I require a midwife to be present in order to attend the birth. I have resources for those planning on free-birthing and happy to support you during your pregnancy and postpartum!

Virtual Support

For those who want the support and resources during their pregnancy and that extra support during birth, but may not want that extra person in the room or for the entire time. I offer prenatal support to answer any questions, be your sounding board, and/or point you in the direction of the best resources for you. During birth, I would be available via text message or phone call to give suggestions for comfort positions, offer encouragement, and provide resources.
